چکیده

Abstract The mesh significantly influences the quality of numerical results in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) problems due to its correlation with turbulence models. In present paper a structured was generated using Gmsh and two semi-structured meshes were snappyHexMesh determine suitable distribution for simulating unsteady cavitation around plane convex hydrofoil. simulation conducted by software OpenFOAM k-ω SST SAS model Zwart-Gerber-Belamri (ZGB) model. Besides, experimental obtained Laboratory Hydraulic Machines École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne used validate results. showed that both predicted pattern maximum cavity length. refinement reproduced detail dynamic behavior cavitation, while efficiently phenomenon.

LES of Partial Cavitation Around a 2D Plane-Convex Hydrofoil Large Eddy Simulation of Partial Cavitation Around a 2D Plane-Convex Hydrofoil

Investigations of attached partial cavitation are important because to prevent damages in hydrulic machinery and to reduce the costs. As expected computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods have been developed for more than 40 years to understand this phenomenon and to improve the machinery designs, as pumps and hydraulic turbines. However, cavitation appears at high Reynolds numbers, so that, t...

Evaluation of turbulence models for the numerical prediction of transient cavitation around a hydrofoil

The objective of this paper is to evaluate the predictive capability of three turbulence models for the simulation of unsteady cavitating flows around a 2D Clark-y hydrofoil. Three turbulence models were standard k-ε model, hybrid model of density correction model (DCM) and filter-based model (FBM) and an improved partially-averaged Navier-Stokes model (PANS) based on k-ε model. Using the above...

Numerical and experimental research on unsteady cavitating flow around NACA 2412 hydrofoil

This work deals with the numerical and experimental investigation of unsteady cavitating flow around a prismatic NACA 2412 hydrofoil. The main attention is focussed on the dependence of cavitation dynamics on the cavitation number at high incidence angles. The experimental research is carried out in the cavitation water tunnel the rectangular test section of which has inner dimensions 150×150×5...

Observations of Cavitation on a Three-dimensional Oscillating Hydrofoil

A test apparatus was designed and constructed to observe the effect of sinusoidal pitching oscillations on the cavitation of thredimensional hydrofoils. The apparatus is capable of oscillating hydrofoils at a rate up to 50 Hz and provides for adjustments in oscillation amplitude and mean angle of attack. Observations of the effect of pitching oscillation on cavitation have been made for a NACA ...

A Finite Element Model for Simulating Flow around a Well with Helically Symmetric Perforations

In a perforated well, fluids enter the wellbore through array of perforation tunnels. These perforations are typically distributed in a helical pattern around the wellbore. Available numerical models to simulate production flow into cased-and-perforated vertical wells have complicated boundary conditions or suffer from high computational costs. This paper presents a simple and at the same time ...
